The Hawthorn Cup was fished Sunday the 13th April and as predicted in the post below the conditions were just about perfect. Large quanties of smolt & par were caught which bodes well for the future.
A good turnout a day when most anglers caught something even if it was endless par. Some anglers however had a red letter day with 3 anglers catching over 100" total length each, Dermott Mitchell was third with a handsome 105", Kevin Tipper who also had the largest single fish of the day (15 1/2") was second with a whopping 122", but the winner on the day with a tape measure busting 161" was Jason Nolan. The river was in prime condition for nymph fishing with very few rising fish, although when the competition was over a few trout began to rise isn't it always the way. cheek out the photos below. In other news a rare sighting was seen on the Rye this week Iorn Blue Duns a fly not seen for many a year, no doubt there are some of these old favourites rattling around everyones fly box might be time they got wet on the Rye again.
P.S. Apologies to Kevin wrong picture see the correct one below.
