Hi All
Only 11 sleeps until the start of the new season waahoooo! hope you all got some nice shiny new fishing equipment off santa and can't wait to try it out on the river.
The 2014 calendar is now posted just to wet your appetite, we had a fine year last year with some amazing fish being caught at some crazy hours of the day/night, 2013 will certainly go down as the driest hottest summer anyone can remember on the Rye with water levels at a constant low, quite the contrast since November as its been in flood since then hopefully it will have dropped before the first of March.
A WORD OF WARNING the fisheries board & Intel have carried out some improvement works between the big rock and the small farmers bridge at the back of intel this stretch was quite shallow and fast flowing holding very few fish it now has deep holes some to 2 mtrs so caution is needed in this stretch until you are familiar with the changes.

1meter at the middle measuring post
The bottom weir nearly covered
The willow tree still hanging on at Leixlip bridge

Last Chance 2013
Hi All
Only got the results of the Last Chance comp last night and sorry to say it wasn't great with only one fish caught by the winner of the comp Kevin Tipper (we wont blame his gillie for the day who might claim some kudos points for putting him on the fish while he blanked along with everyone else, or the fact that he fished in the Leinster qualifiers the day before on the same lake, only joking). It was a very slow day with most happy to see Donal and the fry up at lunch time many thanks again to Donal for his efforts although we might have to get him some BBQ tools as the plastic fork didn't really cut it.
This win sowed up what was one of the tightest Leagues we have had since it began. Kevin Tipper won this as well, he put in a lot of effort this year and it paid off well done Kevin the League trophy will be presented to him as usual at the AGM which this year is scheduled for the Friday 15th November in St Marys GAA Leixlip.
The fly tying is due to start back Thursday the 7th November in the back room of St Marys GAA Leixlip all welcome, we are going to try to bring in some guest speakers this year and do a few features on casting techniques, tackle selection, cleaning, maintenance etc it will be very interesting to say the least a good chance for both the experienced & novice angler to learn something new.
We will post the info here on the blog so you will know whats coming up.

The Sedge (Trout League round 7)
Hi All
The second last leg of the Trout League was fished on Sunday evening and a fine evening with just a couple of short showers greeted the anglers who turned out. There wasn't a great hatch but that didn't put a dampener on proceedings as some anglers had a grand evenings fishing. This round was won by Jason Nolan with 7 trout for an over all total of 72inches Dermott Mitchell was second with 3 trout for 42 inches Dermott also took the bonus point for the biggest fish on the night with a massive 20inch trout a fish of a lifetime well done to both. Martin Murray also had a nice 15 inch trout continuing the run of fine trout caught on the rye this year all the conservation work is paying off as we have seen over the course of the year. The trout league which was quite close is now set up for a last day show down between Kevin Tipper & Jason Nolan who are neck & neck level on points at the top of the league, looks like it will have to be sorted out on Lough Owel in the quite fittingly named "Last Chance Competition" to decide who wins the league.

The Green Peter
Hi All
The Green Peter comp was well attended as usual with a fine BBQ afterwards, Donal as usual providing his culinary skills to keep everyone full of burgers.
There were lots of burgers but sad to say not many fish with only 2 trout making it to the weigh in, low water levels & high water temperatures may have contributed to the lack of fish, but this didn't dampen sprits as the banter on the bank afterwards will testify to.
John Brennan won with Gerry Woods second well done to both for catching a fish on such a tough night.
Dont forget the last river leg of the Trout League is on this Sunday and with some heavy rain forecast for today it might freshen things up for Sunday evening, meet at the Intel football pitches car park @ 7:30pm fishing from 8-10pm.
Hope to see you all there.
