A Lough Ree Lump

Hi All
Hope you are all keeping well, the river is quite low at the minute almost down to summer levels even though the temperatures aren't up to summer levels yet.
The cold weather didn't stop Gerry Woods catching a fine Lump of a Trout on a recent trip to Lough Ree on a Mayfly Nymph nice one Gerry sure you will all agree a fine fish.

Gianluca also had another fine trout out of the Rye recently caught on a nymph below.

Also we are going to join forces with the Leixlip Tidy Towns again as we did a couple of years ago when we hauled a massive pile of rubbish out of the river.
We are planning to do another clean up of the lower Rye & Liffey this year after the Festival is over, the date we are aiming at is Wednesday 5th of June meet at the Scouts Den @ 7pm for a few hours cleaning, we will need as many anglers as we can muster to drag the rubbish out of the river to the tidy towns volunteers who are going to help us get it to a central point for disposal remember the more anglers we can put in the river the less work each will have to do.
Thankfully the river is not as bad as it was a couple of years ago so it shouldn't be as big a job as it was then. However the Liffey does need a bit more work than the Rye in particular at the back of the court yard & car park. So see you all there a text will be sent out to confirm the time & date & it will be confirmed here on the blog as well.

Jr Comp 2013

Hi All
All the Jr members turned out for the competition and were greeted with a showery blustery day but that didn't dampen the spirits any all were raring to get fishing.
Everyone saw some action on the day even if some fish were lost and there were a good few caught as well.
Philip Byrne won the competition with Niall Flood 2nd as no one else landed a fish we had an impromptu raffle for third prize.
The fishing standards have much improved this year with the Jr members.
It wont be long before their in mixing it with the seniors.
Well done to all who fished in the comp.

A Few Good Fish

Hi All
A couple of our new members have discovered some of the hidden gems in our river (well the big ones do tend to hide themselves well). Both Dermott Mitchell & Gianluca Paolella had a few good trips down to the river this year the weather looked bad but the fishing looked great well done lads below are a few photos taken by them on the day enjoy.
p.s on the trout league table it seems our blog was effected by the Gmail issues over the past few days making posting tables or very large items to the blog impossible for the minute we could only get a small version to post so you may have to get out the binoculars to view it, we will of course rectify this when blogger returns to normal operation.

The Hawthorn Cup

Hi All
The Hawthorn Cup was fished on Sunday the 14th April a good turn out on quite a blustery day to say the least, however most anglers found a few sheltered spots to get some fishing in.
Fly life was present but most flies were blown off the river quickly, very few fish rising for them.
Kevin McLaughlin won the event on a tough day with 2 fish for an over all total of 18 inches well  done Kevin.  A lot of anglers caught fish around 8-9 inches but the bigger stamp of fish didn't come out to play they properly had more sense to be out on such a windy day. Only one fish over 12 inches was caught by angler Dermot Mitchell. Hopefully the Hawthorns will make an appearance for the JR competition on the 28th of this month.
We are having some difficulties posting the Trout league table it will be updated as soon as these bugs are worked out.

27th March 2013 what a difference a year makes

Hi All
What a difference a year makes here are a few photos taken this morning on the Rye bridge in Leixlip.
Last year on the 24th March we had the Paddy's day comp in blistering 20 degree temperatures which lasted more than a week this morning just over a year later the contrast is stark.
