A Poem for the Rye by Mattie Cunningham

Don’t turn your back on the Rye

We have a friend and from her source to her end,
She’s more classy than Itchen or Tweed.
She’s friendly and warm and bustles along, past hedges and bridges and reed.
She’s lovely and dear, but these past years she’s shed tears,
When her anglers just cast her aside,
Now she’s had some work done to her face and her bum,
So fish her, and restore her pride.
In the summer she’s low and her bones start to show,
And her lush reeds get burnt to a stalk.
But somewhere in there, the trout still have their lairs,
For you know they can’t get out and walk.
Don’t  go drive,n  for miles you’ll just end up with piles,
Instead just go down where you’re wanted.
it’s for her daughters and sons that she’s had the work done,
So fish her, and just let her flaunt it!
She’s proud of her trout, she won’t just give them out,
She’ll make you work hard for your thrill.
But when she gives up a trout don’t, take him out,
For they’re far too precious to kill.
So if during the season, so you don’t lose your reason,
You need to go casting a fly,
With a few hours to spend, go see an old friend
and don’t turn your back on the Rye.

Trout League Round 5

Hi All
The Trout League Round 5 was fished on the 5th July 2014, not quite the weather we had for the Intel Trophy but hey you can't win them all. A good turn out and a good few fish caught with Aidan Crean won this leg of the league with a fine trout of 19 inches from the Rye I'm sure you'll agree a lump.
Kevin McLaughlin was second with another fine fish of 15 inches, a good nights fishing by any standards. Remember if you want to go on the Blackwater trip please contact Aidan Crean ASAP.
The Green Peter is to be fished on the 26th July meet at Jack Doolins always a bit of crack with a BBQ after, if your going and need a boat please contact Mattie Cunningham.

Intel Trophy 2014

Hi All
A good turn out as usual for the Intel Trophy and an absolutely beautiful evening was granted by the gods of fishing  with a fabulous sedge hatch from 9pm on wards, can't ask for better really. In fact the sedge hatch got so intense on some sections of the river some anglers sugested a dust mask would have come in handy. The competition was accumulative length as usual and was won by Kevin Tipper with and overall length of 135 inches a fine total well done Kevin. Jason Nolan was 2nd with a total of 117.5 inches & Dermott Mitchell was 3rd with a total of 43 inches. The biggest single fish also fell to Kevin Tipper 2no fish at 15 inches. Apologies to Colm Corrigan  who we've been wrongly calling Horrigan for some reason this year its been rectified now thankfully, notably he had one of his best evenings on the Rye & best league placing with 31.5 inches for 5th place, narrowly pipped for 4th by Alan Clarke with 35 inches for his best place to date also. Another apology as not one photo was taken on the night by anyone, with everyone to busy enjoying the beautiful weather & sedge hatch we all got a bit carried away.
Anyhow the next competition is League Night 5 on Saturday the 5th July Meet at 7:30pm intel football pitches fishing till 11pm. However please note as per anglers discussion about the end time after this comp last year & subsequent comity discussion on the matter, the end time may be extended to 12pm if conditions require it which will be decided on the night.
Hope to see you all there & if someone could ask the fishing gods for the same conditions as the Intel Trophy it would be much appreciated.
